Kikuyu Grass Seeds
Contains 100% coated kikuyu lawn seeds.
Kikuyu is a warm-season grass which is very well adapted to New Zealand conditions, especially the upper North Island and coastal regions.
This creeping grass prefers warm to hot conditions and needs only minimal maintenance or watering. When mown regularly and fertilised during the growing season (Oct–May), it forms a tight, dense kikuyu lawn with a consistently tidy finish.
Kikuyu Lawn Seed Pros
- Forms a dense, robust kikuyu lawn.
- Handles summer heat and dry conditions very well.
- Requires less maintenance than many conventional cool-season species.
- Once fully established, kikuyu grass is virtually Indestructible.
Kikuyu Lawn Seed Cons
- Needs full sun to perform well, meaning growth will stall in shade, in winter, or when frost hits.
- Requires specific chemicals for broadleaf weed control.
- Kikuyu lawns require a low mowing height to prevent sponginess, with occasional edging or spraying to keep creeping under control.
